Size guide and care

Reel’s product page has a Size guide row and a Care row that fold open. Each product can have its own text, stored in product metafields. You fill them in on the product, and the theme shows them. No app and no code.

1. How the default template is wired

The default product template already connects:

• The Size guide block to the metafield custom.size_guide.
• The Collapsible row block headed Care to the metafield custom.care.

Both metafields must be of the type Rich text. Once you create them, every product can carry its own size guide and care text.

2. Create the two metafield definitions

1. In Shopify admin, go to Settings → Metafields and metaobjects → Products.
2. Click Add definition.
3. Name it Size guide. Set Namespace and key to custom.size_guide.
4. Click Select type and choose Rich text. Keep One value.
5. Click Save.
6. Repeat with the name Care, the namespace and key custom.care, and the type Rich text.

3. Fill them in on each product

1. Go to Products and open a product.
2. Scroll to Metafields. You’ll see Size guide and Care.
3. Write the text. You can use headings, lists, bold text and links.
4. Click Save.

A product with an empty metafield shows no row. You don’t need to fill every product.

4. Use a table for sizes

The Rich text editor in Shopify admin can’t make tables. If your size guide is a table of measurements, put it on a page instead.

1. Go to Online Store → Pages and create a page, for example “Size guide: tops”. Add the table in the page editor.
2. In the theme editor, open the product page and click the Size guide block.
3. Pick the page in Or use a page.

The block shows the page only when the product’s custom.size_guide metafield is empty. If a product has text in that metafield, the text wins.

To pick a different page per product, create a product metafield definition of the type Page (a page reference). Then click the connect icon next to Or use a page in the block and choose that metafield. You can pick any name and key for this one, because you connect it yourself.

5. One guide for every product

If all your products share one guide, you don’t need metafields. In the Size guide block, remove the connected metafield from Content and type the guide there, or pick one page in Or use a page.

6. More rows

You can add more Collapsible row blocks, for example for materials or shipping. Each has a Heading, a Content field you can type in or connect to another metafield, and Or use a page. If you fill both content and a page, the row shows both, one after the other.
