Build a box
Build a box lets shoppers fill a box of a set size from a collection you choose. Each filled slot takes the product’s own field color, so the box fills with your range. When the box is full, one button adds everything to the bag.
1. Make a collection of products to choose from
- Go to Products → Collections → Create collection.
- Name it, for example “Box”, and choose Manual.
- Add the products shoppers may pick. Platter shows up to 24.
Single-option products work best. For a product with options, the box offers its first available option only.
2. Make a box product (optional)
A box product is added once per box, for example a gift box with its own price. Its line in the bag lists what is in the box.
Create it like any product. If it is also in the box collection, Platter leaves it out of the choices.
Skip this step if the box has no price of its own. The box then costs what its products cost.
3. Create the page
- Go to Online Store → Pages → Add page.
- Title it, for example “Build a box”.
- Under Theme template, choose box.
- Save.
Platter’s box template holds only the Build a box section. Text you write in the page content does not show, so put your words in the section instead.
4. Set up the section
Click Customize, then open your new page from the page selector at the top of the editor. Select the Build a box section and set:
- Heading and Text, shown above the box.
- Products to choose from, the collection from step 1.
- Products per box, from 2 to 12. The default is 4.
- Box product, the product from step 2, if you made one.
- Note under the button, for example “Add a gift note and a delivery date in the bag.” It is hidden on phones and tablets.
- Color scheme.
Then add the page to your menu so shoppers can find it.
You can also add the Build a box section to the home page. It works the same way there.
5. What shoppers see
Shoppers press plus and minus beside each product. They can pick the same product more than once. The box shows how many are chosen, for example “2 of 4 chosen”, and a running total. Sold-out products show “Sold out” and can’t be picked.
The Add box to bag button works only when the box is exactly full. Start again empties the box. With the cart drawer, the drawer opens after adding. With the cart page, the bag count in the header updates and the shopper stays on the page.
In the bag, each product is its own line. The box product’s line adds “Contains:” and the list, for example “Contains: Dark 72%, Sea salt and nib x2”.
