Languages in Platter

Applies to Platter v0.1.0 and laterUpdated 2026-10-112 min read

Platter ships in five languages: English, French, German, Italian and Spanish. The theme’s own text is already translated: buttons, labels, the bag, filters, food fact labels and messages. The settings in the theme editor are translated too, for staff who use Shopify admin in one of these languages.

Your own content is a separate job. Product names, descriptions, metafield values, blog posts and the text you type into sections need their own translations.

1. Add a language

  1. In Shopify admin, go to Settings → Languages.
  2. Click Add language and choose French, German, Italian or Spanish.
  3. Translate your own content. Shopify’s free Translate & Adapt app covers products, metafields, blog posts and theme section text.
  4. Back in Settings → Languages, publish the language.

Platter picks up the language straight away. You don’t need to change any theme setting.

2. The language selector

The footer shows a language selector once your store has more than one published language. Turn it off with Show language selector in the Footer section. The country/region selector works the same way, with Show country/region selector.

3. Change the wording

To change any of Platter’s own text in any language, go to Online Store → Themes → ⋯ → Edit default theme content. Pick the language at the top, then search for the words you want to change.
