Cart, gift note and delivery date

Applies to Platter v0.1.0 and laterUpdated 2026-10-113 min read

Platter calls the cart “Your bag”. It can open as a drawer or as a page, and it can ask for a gift note and a requested delivery date. You find all of this in the editor under Theme settings → Cart.

1. Drawer or page

Cart type has two options:

  • Drawer is the default. Add to bag opens the bag over the page, and the shopper keeps their place. The drawer has a View bag link to the full cart page.
  • Page sends the shopper to the cart page after each Add to bag.

The cart page is always there, whichever you choose. Shoppers reach it from View bag or at /cart.

2. Gift note

Offer a gift note is on by default. The shopper writes up to 300 characters in the bag. The note is saved on the order as the attribute “Gift note”. You see it on the order in Shopify admin, under Additional details.

Under the field, Platter tells shoppers: “Printed on a card in the box. Prices are not included.” If you don’t print cards, change this text. See step 6.

3. Requested delivery date

Ask for a delivery date is on by default. The shopper picks a date with the date picker. The earliest date they can pick is two days after today. The date is saved on the order as the attribute “Delivery date”.

The help text says you will do your best to arrive on that day, and that an empty date means the first available day.

The gift note and delivery date sit together behind one toggle, “Gift note and delivery date”. It opens by itself once either one has a value. Turn both settings off to hide it.

4. Free shipping line

Free shipping from shows a line in the bag drawer such as “Add $12 more for free shipping.” Once the bag reaches the amount, it says “Your order ships free.”

  • Set it from 0 to 300, in steps of 5, in your store’s currency. The default is 50.
  • 0 hides the line.
  • The line shows in the drawer only, not on the cart page.
  • The line shows only when the shopper pays in your store’s default currency. The theme can’t convert the amount, so shoppers who pay in another currency don’t see it.

This setting only shows the message. It doesn’t change what shipping costs. Set your real free-shipping rate in Settings → Shipping and delivery, at the same amount.

5. Order note

The cart page can also show an Order note field. In the editor, open the cart page and select the Cart section. Show order note is on by default. The order note shows on the cart page only, not in the drawer.

6. Change the wording

To change any text in the bag, such as the gift note help text, go to Online Store → Themes → ⋯ → Edit default theme content. Search for the words you want to change.
