Collections and allergen filters
Platter shows a collection as rows, not a grid of cards. Each row is a small field in the product’s own color, with its photo, name, origin, tasting notes, allergens and price. Shoppers can filter by allergen once you set up the filter in Shopify’s free Search & Discovery app.
1. Product rows
Each row shows:
- the product photo, name, origin and measure
- tasting notes and allergens
- the price, with the size beside it
- one action
A product with one option and no subscription gets an Add to bag button right in the row. Any other product gets a Choose options button that opens its product page. A product that also sells on a subscription shows its first plan under the price.
Search results and product recommendations use the same rows.
2. Collection page settings
Open a collection in the editor and select the Collection section.
- Field color sets the header color for every collection that uses this template. Leave it empty to use each collection’s own color.
- Show collection image shows the collection image beside the title. It is on by default.
- Show filters and sorting shows the filter panel. It is on by default.
- Products per page runs from 6 to 48. The default is 24.
3. Collection colors
A collection’s header is a field in its own color when you give it one. Without a color, the header sits on the plain page background. Platter does not borrow a product’s color for the whole collection.
To give collections a color, create a definition once:
- Go to Settings → Custom data → Collections → Add definition. On some stores this page is called Metafields and metaobjects.
- Set Namespace and key to
platter.field_colorand the type to Color. Save. - Open a collection in Shopify admin and pick its color in the Metafields card.
The color also shows as a chip next to the collection in the mega menu. On the page that lists all collections, each collection is a strip in its color. Collections without a color use the theme’s Default field color there.
4. Filters and sorting
Filters come from Shopify. Platter shows every filter you set up in the Search & Discovery app, plus a Sort by menu. The first two filter groups start open. On phones and tablets, the panel folds away behind a Filter and sort button.
5. Add an allergen filter
You need the Allergens metafield first. See Product colors and food facts. Then:
- Install Shopify’s Search & Discovery app if you don’t have it.
- In the app, go to Filters → Add filter.
- Choose the product metafield Allergens (
platter.allergens). - Save. The filter shows on collection pages and search results.
6. Complementary products
The “Goes well with” section on product pages shows complementary products. You choose them in Search & Discovery too, under Product recommendations.
