Pre-orders, stock lines and the age check
Platter has four selling features you can use when they fit your shop: a low stock line, a back-in-stock signup, pre-orders and an age check. The low stock line and the back-in-stock signup are on by default. Pre-orders follow your selling plans. The age check is off until you turn it on. The settings are in the editor under Theme settings → Selling.
1. Low stock line
When a product runs low, the product page shows “Only 3 left in this batch” under the price.
- Low stock line sets the number at or below which the line shows, from 0 to 20. The default is 10. 0 turns it off.
- The line needs tracked inventory. In the product’s Inventory card, turn on Track quantity and turn off Continue selling when out of stock.
- It shows on the product page only, and follows the selected size or grind.
If “batch” doesn’t fit what you sell, change the wording in Online Store → Themes → ⋯ → Edit default theme content.
2. Back-in-stock signup
When the selected product or option is sold out, the product page shows “Sold out. Get an email when it is back.” with an email field and a Notify me button.
- Back-in-stock signup is on by default.
- Each request arrives as a contact form email to your store. It lists “Back in stock request” with the product and option name, and the shopper’s email address.
- Platter does not send the email when stock returns. Write to the shopper yourself, or use an app for automatic emails.
The signup does not show on gift cards.
3. Pre-orders
Platter shows a product as a pre-order when both are true:
- The product sells only with its purchase options, not as a normal one-time purchase.
- None of its selling plans repeat. A pre-order app that uses Shopify selling plans creates plans like this.
The button then reads “Pre-order” instead of “Add to bag”. Everything else, including when you charge and ship, is set in your pre-order app.
4. Age check
For shops that sell alcohol or other adult products, Platter can ask visitors their age before they shop. The settings are under Theme settings → Selling → Age check.
- Ask visitors their age turns it on. It is off by default, in every preset.
- Minimum age runs from 16 to 25. The default is 21.
- Message shows under the question. Leave it empty for a short default reason.
The visitor sees “Are you 21 or older?” with Yes, enter and No. Yes closes the question, and the browser remembers it, so the visitor is asked once. No replaces the question with a message that the shop is only for people of that age, and the store stays covered.
The check does not show in the theme editor, so it never blocks your editing. To test it, open your store in a private browser window.
