Checking your speed score

Updated 2026-10-114 min read

Shopify measures your store’s speed with real visits, not a single score. It reports three numbers that Google also uses, called Core Web Vitals. This guide shows where to find them and what usually moves them.

1. Find your numbers

  1. In Shopify admin, go to Online Store. The web performance summary sits on the Themes page.
  2. Pick a date range: Today, Last 7 days or Last 30 days.
  3. Click a number to open its report.

For every report, go to Analytics → Reports and type a colon (:) in the search box to list the web performance reports.

2. What the three numbers mean

Each number is rated Good, Moderate or Poor. It describes the experience of three in four of your visitors.

  • Largest Contentful Paint (LCP): how long the main image or text takes to appear. Good is 2.5 seconds or less.
  • Interaction to Next Paint (INP): how quickly the page responds to a tap or click. Good is 200 ms or less.
  • Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS): how much the page jumps while it loads. Good is 0.1 or less.

The numbers come from real visitors over time. They can take a day or more to change after you edit your store. A new store, or a store behind a password, may show no numbers yet.

3. What usually slows a store down

  • Apps. Each app that adds code to your storefront adds weight. Remove apps you no longer use, and check that their code went with them.
  • Large media at the top of the page. A background video or a very large hero image is the first thing every visitor loads. Keep the first section light.
  • Too many sections. A long home page loads more images. Remove sections that don’t earn their place.
  • Tracking and chat scripts added through Custom Liquid or app embeds.

4. Test one page in detail

Google’s free PageSpeed Insights tests a single page and lists what to fix. Lab scores vary from run to run, so test the same page a few times and look at the trend, not one result.
