Reel's three demo stores are live

Reel is our fashion theme. Today its three presets went live on their own demo stores, the last big step before we submit it to the Shopify Theme Store.

The SQUALL demo store home page in the Reel preset: the eroded LOW PRESSURE title beside a photo of a model in a black hoodie.

Three stores, three presets

Each preset gets a store with its own brand and its own catalog, so a merchant can see the preset with real products, not a sample mug.

  • SQUALL runs the Reel preset: heavyweight hoods, crews and tees named after weather, with a campaign video and a type-led home page.
  • NINTH HOUR runs Reel Dusk: evening dresses, jewelry and bags, with a drop countdown.
  • FIRST LIGHT runs Reel Haze: everyday tees, tops and shoes, with softer colors and rounded corners.

Every store carries 40 products with photos, collections, a mega menu, size guides, care notes and three journal posts. The stores are behind a password until the theme is approved.

What a shopper can do

  • Filter a collection by availability, price, color and size. Color filters show real swatches.
  • Pick a color and the gallery jumps to that color’s photos.
  • Open the size guide on the product page. It comes from the product’s own data, so one guide serves many products.
  • Use the cart drawer with a free-shipping bar, a gift note and suggestions.
  • Shop in five languages: English, French, German, Italian and Spanish. The theme editor is translated too.
  • Sign in from the header through Shopify’s own account menu.

How we checked it

Every change to Reel runs the same gates before it can merge:

  • Shopify’s theme check, with no errors.
  • Lighthouse on the home, collection and product pages: performance 80 or higher and accessibility 95 or higher.
  • Browser tests for keyboard focus and screen-reader announcements in the menu, filters, search, cart and size picker.

On the live stores we opened all 120 product pages and placed a test order. Reel ships 16 kB of its own JavaScript, gzipped, and none of it blocks the first paint.

What is next

We submit Reel to the Theme Store with these three stores as its demos. Shopify’s review usually asks for changes, and we will write down what they ask for here.
