Platter's three demo stores are live

Platter is our theme for small food and drink brands. Today its three presets went live on their own demo stores, ready for our Shopify Theme Store submission.

Three stores, three presets

  • Hollis Chocolate runs the Platter preset: single-origin bars, filled bars, drinking chocolate and a monthly Bar Club.
  • Fernhill Coffee runs Market: single-origin beans, a decaf, a house espresso and a Roaster’s Choice subscription.
  • Low Ember runs Night: hot sauces, a chili crisp, a four-bottle Heat Ladder box and a monthly Sauce Club.

Food brands sell a few products and explain each one well, so each store carries eight or nine products, a recipe, a build-a-box page and a stockists page. The stores are behind a password until the theme is approved.

What a shopper can do

  • Read the facts first. Every product shows what it contains, its size and its notes above the price.
  • Filter by allergen on Hollis Chocolate and Low Ember, or by grind on Fernhill Coffee.
  • Subscribe in one tap. The Bar Club page starts on the subscription plan, so “Join” adds the plan, not a one-time box.
  • Cook from a recipe and add every ingredient the store sells to the bag.
  • Shop in five languages: English, French, German, Italian and Spanish.

The bug we cared most about

Recipe product lists used to say “Contains: None” when a product had no allergen data. That reads as “allergen-free” when it means “unknown”. Platter now shows “Contains: None” only for products marked allergen-free, and shows nothing when the data is missing. A test fails if it ever comes back.

We also found one bug on a real phone, not in our tests: on an iPhone 16 Pro Max, a two-word store name ran into the header icons. The phone header now sizes its own columns, and a browser test checks the store name against every header icon at 390 and 440 pixels wide.

How we checked it

Platter runs the same gates as Reel on every change: Shopify’s theme check, Lighthouse performance 80 or higher and accessibility 95 or higher, and browser tests. On the live stores we opened every product page and added a subscription to the bag.

What is next

We submit Platter to the Theme Store with these three stores as its demos, and we will post what the review asks us to change.
